Pricing for your infrastructure database.
One system of record for the resources you run, the changes you ship, and the agents making them. Start free with state storage and insights. Upgrade for parallel, graph-aware plans and applies.
Runs on Stategraph Cloud. Free is shared-tenant SaaS; paid tiers are single-tenant with your own isolated Postgres. Enterprise can self-host or run BYOC in your own AWS, GCP, or Azure account.

Get StartedChoose your volume
A BIU (billable infrastructure unit) is anything that shows up on your cloud bill. IAM, security groups, and other free wiring don't count. Slide to see packed pricing for your footprint.
Why we charge by infrastructure volume
Per-resource pricing has a bad reputation, and for good reason. Some vendors count every entry in terraform state list, which means teams that follow best practices (granular IAM, scoped security groups, data sources) pay more than teams that cut corners. That model punishes good engineering.
We think infrastructure volume is still the right axis to price on. Larger footprints get more value from Stategraph: more blast radius coverage, richer dependency graphs, more insights across more states, and more support surface area. But the unit has to be fair. A BIU only counts resources that show up on your cloud bill. The wiring that makes your infrastructure well-architected is free, the same way it's free from your cloud provider.
What doesn't count as a BIU
If it's free from your cloud provider, it's free from us. We only count infrastructure that shows up on your cloud bill: compute, storage, managed databases, load balancers, DNS zones, managed services. The wiring that holds it all together is on the house.
- IAM roles, policies, and policy attachments
- Security groups and security group rules
- Network ACLs, route tables, route table associations
- Subnets, subnet associations, VPCs themselves
- Data sources (anything read-only)
null_resource,terraform_data,locals, outputs
How it works: Every paid tier starts with 10,000 BIUs included. Need more? Add committed packs at volume-discounted rates. The slider shows pack pricing, which beats month-to-month rates by 20–73%.
Pricing FAQ
What counts as a BIU?
Anything that shows up on your cloud bill: compute, containers, managed databases, load balancers, storage buckets, DNS zones, managed services. The wiring that's free from your cloud provider is free from us too: IAM, security groups, network ACLs, route tables, data sources, null_resource, locals, outputs. Your terraform state list output is not your BIU count.
Why not just charge per resource like everyone else?
Because charging per terraform state list entry punishes well-architected systems. Teams that carefully scope IAM roles, split security groups, and use data sources generously end up with bigger bills than teams that cut corners. That's backwards. We only count billable infrastructure: the resources you were already going to pay your cloud provider for anyway.
What if I exceed my 10,000 included BIUs?
Add a committed pack from the slider above. Packs are volume-discounted, with effective rates from $1.20 per BIU on Enterprise to $1.80 per BIU on Starter. We notify you proactively if you're approaching your contracted limit; we never surprise-bill.
Can I have a large footprint but basic features?
Yes. Feature tier and volume are independent. Pick Starter for features, then scale up your BIU count as needed. Or pick Enterprise on a small footprint for SQL and RBAC. You shouldn't have to pay for features you don't want just because you have a lot of infrastructure.
Is Stategraph Cloud multi-tenant?
The Free tier runs on a shared-tenant deployment so you can get started instantly. Every paid tier (Starter and up) is single-tenant — your own isolated instance and Postgres database at app.stategraph.cloud, never sharing a database with anyone else.
Can I self-host or run Stategraph in my own VPC?
Yes — on the Enterprise tier. Enterprise customers can choose to deploy self-hosted (you run it in your own infrastructure, fully air-gapped if needed), or BYOC — Bring Your Own Cloud, where our engineering team operates Stategraph inside your AWS, GCP, or Azure account with private connectivity. You own the data and the account; we run the software. Both options are Enterprise-only.
How does billing work?
Annual contracts with monthly or quarterly billing options. Stategraph phones home daily with your BIU count. At month-end, we reconcile against your contracted pack and invoice for any committed overage.
Can I get a custom pack between the slider stops?
Yes. Real footprints rarely land exactly on a slider stop. We structure contracts based on your actual BIU count and growth projections. Talk to sales for custom contracts.
